What's New:
2nd graders are being introduced to FollettShelf and how to login and check out ebooks. 3rd grade is finishing up a research project on an animal part. Trash and treasure notetaking was taught. Final report is made with PicCollage on their iPads. 4th grade is finishing up a project about events that happened on the same day they were born. Notetaking was stressed and final projects are being made with Book Creator on their iPads. 5th grade is being introduced to BiblioNasium an online book site. They each have their own account and can log books read and recommend books to classmates. This is a protected site and a good place to start teaching them about digital citizenship. |

BiblioNasium Information
Here's some further information about BiblioNasium that I got from their site. BiblioNasium is a free, protected social network for children ages 6-13 designed to engage, encourage and excite children about reading. Kids read better when they do it consistently and as part of a peer community. The engaging and challenging environment of BiblioNasium provides the tools and support to make a real difference in building interest in reading for pleasure – and a life-long love of books. Unlike any other child’s online reading community, BiblioNasium links parents, educators and young readers through a unique collection of tools, games and community-building experiences. And it’s all safe. |
Scholastic Reading Counts awards
A dog tag reward system provides an incentive for students in grades third to fifth to read books. Using the software Reading Counts, students take a quiz over a book that they have read and if they pass they earn points toward getting a dog tag. A list of the point totals and their tag can be viewed here. Pictured on the right are some of the tags given. |
